Kids Like Us

Kids Like Us (KLU) is a multi-year, counseling support group for kids, ages 8 to 14, currently and directly impacted by addiction or substance abuse problems of parents, caregivers, or other close family members; or youth with a close family member in recovery from addiction or substance abuse.  We know from research that these youth are more likely to have problems with alcohol and drugs, physical and behavioral health, and school as compared to other youth.  KLU has been serving Frederick County since 1988.  Please click here for more information.

Goals and Services

KLU is free and confidential.  KLU helps youth learn that they are not alone, that substance abuse in the family is not their fault, to express feelings safely, to feel better about themselves, to get along better, avoid substance abuse, and build a positive future through these year round direct-services.

Summer Art Adventure Camp and Annual Public Art Show      
School-Based group participants in elementary and middle school are invited to a free, summer, art day camp program with lots of enriching and fun activities.  An annual public art show of art created at day camp is exhibited at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center (September) and the Frederick County Health Department auditorium (October-April).
