National Recovery Month Events Scheduled for September

Press Release

To recognize National Recovery Month, Frederick County Health Department will align with Faces and Voices of Recovery and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMSHA) during the month of September.  This year’s theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities.”  It highlights the importance of families, communities, and individuals sharing stories of recovery to encourage others to make personal connections with the recovery movement.

In recognition of National Recovery Month, the Frederick County Health Department will sponsor two recovery month events. On September 16, 2017 between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., the health department along with community organizations, allies and persons in recovery will host the 1st Annual Recovery Kickball Tournament.  The second event, Recovery’s Got Talent, a talent show featuring dancing, singing, comedy, poetry and more, will be held on September 22, 2017 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Carroll Creek Linear Park.  All are welcome to audition for the talent show. Auditions will be held on August 18, or August 26, 2017.   “Both events are open to the community to communicate awareness about substance use disorders and mental illness and show that behavioral health is essential to health, prevention works, treatment is effective and people recover from mental and/or substance use disorders”, states Behavioral Health Services Division Director, Andrea Walker.

These are opportunities for the Frederick community to join 100,000 people across the nation in coming together as one voice for National Recovery Month. For information pertaining to the 1st Annual Recovery Kickball Tournament, call Anne Marie Merritt at 301-662-4848 or e-mail amerrit@whitesells.com.   To register for the Recovery’s Got Talent Show, visit http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3623679/Recovery-s-Got-Talent.
