Local Leaders Welcome YOU to Get Active Safely in October!

Frederick Walking Scholars Contest

Each school will have the opportunity to compete against other schools in the county for a PRIZE. This contest is a Bingo Board. You will have the entire month of October, the 1st through the 31st, to cross off the activity boxes. Once you have a Bingo (crossed off 5 boxes in a row either diagonally, down, or across), you can submit your card with the proof of what you have done to SafeKids@FrederickCountyMD.Gov or you can continue to get more Bingos before you submit. Please make sure to add your name, grade, and school at the bottom of the card. The SCHOOL with the highest number of Bingos wins a PRIZE and the TOP 3 STUDENTS will win a GIFT BAG of goodies!

Please use this to calculate your child's steps: You can also pick your school and just take a screenshot of the final tally.

We hope that you will be able to do this as a family. Each member of the family can also participate in the card and submit under the student's name. Click on the image to download the activity.

Don't go to a public or private school? Don't worry! Under "School" write the type of school you are attending and we'll still put you into the contest!

Walk Maryland Day

Walk Maryland Day is a celebration of our state’s official exercise and a call to action to promote walking for physical activity and improved health. Walk Leaders are the change agents from different sectors of the community who see the health benefits of walking and encourage fellow Marylanders to take time out of their day to enjoy a walk within their community. “Sole Mates” are participants who sign up to join registered walks throughout the State.

The 7th Annual Walk Maryland Day will be held on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic has helped highlight the importance of walking as a critical aspect of human well-being, not only for transportation and access, but active recreation and exercise. So, we’ll be pleased to see everyone out there (even if joining virtually and at a distance) wearing masks, keeping proper physical distance, and following all the health protocols that we know are so important to Maryland’s recovery.
