During September 2023, the Frederick County Health Department’s Office of Public Health Preparedness focused on 5 factors that together make up the Social Determinants of Health: Economic Stability, Access to Health Care, Education Access and Quality, Social and Community Context, and Neighborhood and Built Environment.
The connection between Public Health Preparedness and Social Determinants of Health is important for our community to thrive. Public Health Preparedness involves planning, organizing, and responding to emergencies to protect our community’s health. How effective we are depends a lot on things like Social Determinants of Health. These determinants effect how vulnerable a person is in a health crisis, their ability to follow to safety measures, and the overall resilience of communities.
