Novavax: New COVID-19 Vaccine Available

FREDERICK, MD – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine as another primary series option for adults 18 years old and older. The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is a two-dose, protein-based vaccine. Protein-based vaccines have been used for decades to combat diseases including hepatitis B and influenza.

The Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) will begin offering Novavax vaccine to individuals 18 years and older on Wednesday, August 3rd at 585 Himes Ave. in Frederick, MD. Please go to FrederickCountyMD.gov/CovidVaccine to schedule an appointment. More clinics will be added to the website each week and Novavax will be available at each Wednesday Himes clinic. Novavax is not available as a booster dose for individuals who have already received a previous COVID-19 vaccination.

COVID-19 vaccines are free and insurance is not required. Please do not come more than 15 minutes before your appointment to help us avoid long lines. Please do not come to a vaccination clinic if you have any symptoms, or if you are waiting for COVID-19 test results.

FCHD COVID-19 vaccination clinics are designed for specific age groups. Vaccinations for adults are not available at the same clinics as vaccinations for young children. Please check our website for the appropriate clinic for your age group.

For help scheduling an appointment, visit covidvax.maryland.gov or call 855-MDGoVax (855-634-6829) between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week. Other nearby vaccine clinic options are listed at covidvax.maryland.gov or vaccines.gov.
