Communicable Diseases

The Communicable Disease program track the number of people who get specific illnesses in Frederick County. This information is used to find possible patterns in illness and help stops them from spreading.

What Diseases are tracked?

The diseases and illnesses that must be tracked are set by state regulation. These diseases are tracked by people who must report them based on their job. These jobs  include healthcare providers, people who work in schools or daycares, people who work in medical labs , pilots and ship captains, and owners of places that sell food.

A full list of reportable illnesses, reporting forms and fact sheets about those illnesses can be found at the Maryland Department of Health’s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration website.
