Community Reception Centers in Nuclear/Radiological Incidents Training

RECOMMENDED CORE TRAINING (Less than 60 minutes):

The two training components below (CRC Overview Video and Virtual CRC Videos) are required in order to qualify as a Maryland Responds volunteer in a Community Reception Center during a radiation incident. 

  1. CRC Overview Video (15 minutes) Located at:

 This video describes the purpose and organization of a CRC. Click on the link above to access the video.

  1. Virtual CRC Videos (30-40 minutes total)
     This series of videos demonstrates the operation of the various components of a CRC.  They are grouped by the 7 Functional Areas found in a CRC: Initial Sorting, First Aid, Contamination Screening, Wash Station, Registration, Radiation Dose Assessment and Discharge. Each Functional Area includes several videos. 

The Virtual CRC Videos are hosted at the Frederick County Government learning platform, FCG Learn, found at: https://fcglearn.frederickcountymd.gov/course/view.php?id=1076
Your username will be your first name and last name, with no punctuation or spaces. (For example, my username is mikestockman)
Your initial password will be: Pa55w0rd (note the numerals “55” and “0”)   
The first time you access the site, you'll be prompted to change this initial default password to a password that you select.

 When you reach the course page, click “Virtual CRC Videos”
 To navigate within the videos: 

  1. Begin by clicking on “Initial Sorting”, the first Functional Area. 
  2. Click the “Enter” button on the title page.
  3. Click on each video to start the video.
  4. After a video finishes, click on the “Next” button on the lower right to move on to the next video.
  5. When all videos in a Functional Area have been viewed (the “Next” button will gray out), select the next Functional Area (for example, “First Aid”) from the navigation pane on the left. 

**When you complete both #1 and #2 above, please notify Mike Stockman at mstockman@frederickcountymd.gov so that your unit training record can be updated.** 

ADDITIONAL TRAINING
 

AWR 140-W Introduction to Radiological/Nuclear WMD Operations-CTOS Online (2 hours)
This on-line course includes important information regarding essential principles of radiation along with an introduction to operations during radiation events. Completion of the course is strongly recommended for volunteers who may work in a CRC. 

Instructions for registering for AWR 140-W:

This course requires you to obtain a FEMA Student Identification (SID) Number. You may have already done this if you’ve ever taken an onsite or independent study course through FEMA. If you’ve never been issued a FEMA SID, you can get one by completing the online form at:

  1. If you’ve taken a FEMA course in the past and already have a SID, but no longer recall or have a record of the number, you can retrieve your number at:

  2. Prior to taking the course, you must register and request training through the Counter-terrorism Operations Support (CTOS) Center for Radiologic/Nuclear Training by completing the form at:

Once you’ve completed and submitted the form, you’ll be told that you’ll receive an email response within 48 hours. 

  1. You will then receive an email within 48 hours with your new LMS account information and a request to set up your new password. Once your account is active go to https://ctos.acadisonline.com/AcadisViewer/Login.aspx   and sign in. From your Home Page, click on the “Training and Events-Browse or Sign up for Training” tab. Select “AWR-140-W” and follow the LMS prompts.
